Note: this is a starting-point template, not legal advice. Have it reviewed by a qualified professional before you rely on it, especially the children’s-data sections, and confirm the data-storage region matches your Firebase project.
Chores Star (“the App”, “we”, “us”), provided by Mahmudul Hoque, is a private family chore-management app. Parents and guardians set up a family, add chores, and children complete them to earn stars they can spend on family rewards. This policy explains what information the App collects, why, and the choices you have.
We do not sell or rent your information, we do not show advertising, and we do not use your information for advertising or profiling.
Account information.
Family and chore data. Family name, invite code, membership, chores and their details, assignments, completion and approval status, points/stars, rewards, and reward claims — stored so the App can function.
Photos (only if enabled). For chores where a parent turns on “photo proof”, the child may take a before and after photo. These are stored in Google Firebase Storage, visible only to members of that family, and are used solely as proof of a completed chore. When the chore is approved, the before photo is removed and the after photo may become your family’s Home-screen background. All chore photos are automatically and permanently deleted 90 days after they are uploaded, and a parent can delete a chore’s photos sooner at any time from within the App (open the chore, then menu → Delete photos).
Notifications. If you enable notifications, we use Firebase Cloud Messaging, which generates a device token so we can send reminders and approval alerts.
Diagnostics. Firebase Crashlytics collects anonymized crash reports and basic device information (device model, OS version) to help us fix bugs.
Usage analytics. To understand which features are used and improve the App, we record pseudonymous usage events (for example: a screen was viewed, a chore was created, completed, or approved, a reward was claimed). These events contain a random account identifier and simple, non-identifying values (such as a tab name or a point count) — never names, email addresses, photos, or free text. Analytics can be disabled (see “Your Choices”).

We use Google Firebase (Authentication, Cloud Firestore, Storage, Cloud Messaging, Crashlytics) as our data processor to host and operate the App, and Apple and Google to provide sign-in when you choose those methods. We do not share your information with anyone else except where required by law. Google processes data under its own terms and may store it on servers in the United Kingdom, the European Economic Area, and other countries where Google operates (which may include the United States); by using the App you consent to this transfer.
The App is built for families and is intended to be set up and managed by a parent or guardian, who is responsible for the children in their family group.
We aim to comply with children’s-privacy laws including the U.S. Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and the UK/EU GDPR (including the protections for children). If you believe a child has provided us information without appropriate parental involvement, contact us and we will delete it.
Data is stored in Google Firebase. Access to a family’s data is restricted to authenticated members of that same family by server-side security rules. Chore photos are similarly restricted, and analytics events are append-only — they cannot be read back or altered from the App.
We retain your data while your account is active. You can delete your account and its data from within the App (Profile → Delete Account), or request deletion by contacting us; requests are honored within 30 days. Deleting an account removes the associated profile and personal data; anonymized diagnostics and aggregate usage counts that cannot identify you may be retained.
Depending on where you live (e.g. under GDPR or similar laws), you may have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict, or port your personal data, and to object to certain processing. To exercise these rights, contact us.
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by the “Last updated” date above and, where appropriate, notified in the App.
